This is another reason the time limit is great because of how it plays to the story you really feel the weight and importance of the task at hand. Olimar's journal entries in the original are fascinating you get to see his full range of emotions as he fears for his life and learns about the new world around him. In 2, you might as well just spend a few days farming out flower Pikmin because what does it hurt? I know they removed the time limit because it was heavily criticized, but its removal just changed the spirit of the game too much for me. In the original, you have to ask yourself things like: do I have time to farm blue Pikmin today? Can I make up two piece tomorrow? Do I have time to grab more Pikmin for this fight? etc. With limitless time to explore these very linear, enemy-heavy cave levels, it felt much more like an action game than a strategy game. They improved a ton of things in 2 (the Pikmin are definitely way smarter for one), but not having a deadline/time limit kind of killed any strategy or atmosphere for me. It always seems like most people prefer 2, but the original easily wins out in my opinion. Do you like Pikmin 1 or Pikmin 2 better and why?
